Dragon Age 2 Guide - How to Romance Fenris
Dragon Age 2 romance options are an intriguing part of the game. Fenris is one of the characters with whom you can build a relationship. Find out details on how to build a friendship with him so it can lead to romantic encounters.
Dragon Age 2 Romance – Fenris
Fenris is an elf that was a Tevinter slave. His body has been fused with lyrium, which left his body full of tattoo like markings that cause him pain. As a result of this experience, he has lost most of his memories which is a source of frustration for him.
If you would like to pursue a romance with Fenris, your first opportunity to flirt with him will be in Act 1 at the end of the Bait and Switch quest when he is first recruited. Completing this mission unlocks the Fenris Recruited companion quest. You should also keep in mind that Fenris does not trust mages. If you want to score friendship points with him (and not rivalry), avoid taking him on quests that help mages.
Building a Friendship with Fenris
In the beginning of your relationship, Fenris will appear a bit standoffish and a little arrogant. In the dialog with him during Fenris Recruited (which happens at his mansion), there is a brief discussion about his markings and how he thinks they are offensive. Tell him that you like his appearance. This will be a flirtatious comment (which is always indicated by a heart icon). Later in the conversation he compliments you. Say “Flatterer". The result of this dialog earns you +10 to your friendship points.
Your second opportunity to flirt with Fenris will occur in the beginning of the second act of Dragon Age 2. Romance is not in the picture just yet. Visit Fenris at his mansion. Note: You will see this opportunity as “Speak to Fenris" in your journal under the Companion section. Fenris has a discussion with you about Danarius, his former Tevinter master that was chasing him. It appears (at least for the last 3 years) that Fenris has not been hunted.
Dialog begins. Choose diplomatic (leaf icon) comments until you get a chance to flirt with him. Fenris says “Three years and no sign of Dinarius. Maybe he has stopped chasing me". Tell him “Hopefully he has". Fenris then asks “What do you do when you stop running?" You tell him “You build a life".
The conversation continues and he talks about losing his memories after the lyrium was fused to his body. Fenris says" I shouldn’t trouble you with this. My problems are not yours". Since you would like to build this Dragon Age 2 romance with Fenris, your response is a flirtatious one - “They could be". Your character then says that they might be able to help him with his problems or even give him others – the good kind.
Fenris then asks you if anyone has gotten your attention. You tell him “Just you". Fenris seems intrigued but says “I’m an escaped slave and an elf living in a borrowed mansion. None of these things bother you?" Tell him “I’m not without my faults". Your character with then say something like “I’m a refugee and a human. That does not bother you? Fenris says “You raise an interesting point. I will have to consider it". The result of this conversation earns you +5 friendship points.
Other Conversation Opportunities with Fenris
Another way to help build your relationship with Fenris is to complete any companion quest that is related to him. In the second act of Dragon Age 2, this opportunity presents itself while you are on a quest to help Aveline with her companion quest (The Long Road) in the Wounded Coast. The quest is called A Bitter Pill and you must help Fenris find Danarius apprentice Hadriana. Towards the end of this quest, dialog will occur with an elf slave girl. In this conversation tell the elf girl to go to your mansion and you will have a job for her. Fenris questions you about it. Be sure to tell him that you have hired the girl and she is not a slave for you. This will earn +5 to your friendship points with Fenris.
At the end of this quest, Fenris will need to be alone. In your dialog, ask him if he wants to talk about it. Try to comfort him (flirt response). Fenris will still be upset, but the result of this conversation will earn +15 friendship points.
Continuing with this Dragon Age 2 romance guide, go to Hawke’s mansion. Fenris will be there and a conversation begins. Tell Fenris that you were worried about him. There is discussion about Fenris experience as a slave and how it has caused him so much anger. He tells you that he didn’t come to your mansion to burden you. Say “It’s not a burden". The result of this conversation earns you +15 friendship points.
Romancing Fenris - Questioning Beliefs
The Questioning Beliefs companion quest opens up in the middle of Act 2 after some of the main plot Dragon Age 2 quests have been completed. Note: If you are trying to romance Anders and Fenris at the same time, this quest may appear twice on your companion quest list.
Go to Fenris mansion. You will see Fenris drinking some wine. He asks you if you would like to hear a story. Say – “Tell me anything you like". Fenris seems happy by this response and tells you details about his life as a slave. At this point in the dialog, choose diplomatic responses up until he says “I guess this is what it means to have a friend". You say – “Just friends?" Fenris seems intrigued but tells you he has not allowed anyone to get that close to him. He mentions that it might be different with you. Tell him “I’m willing". Fenris tells that it may be possible at another time.
Leave Fenris mansion. Go back to Hawke’s mansion.
Consummating your Relationship with Fenris
When you arrive at Hawke’s mansion, Fenris is there. He says “I’ve been thinking about you and nothing else. Command me to go and I shall." Say – “Don’t go". Fenris then gives you a passionate kiss. Your character then responds to his affections by pressing Fenris up against the wall and making out with him. An intimate encounter follows.
Afterwards, Fenris has gotten up from your bed and is fully dressed. Your character says something like “Was it that bad?"Fenris responds by saying that it was the best but he is troubled by some of his memories resurfacing and then disappearing. He says that your relationship is too much and moved too fast. Dialog will begin. Regardless of which way you try to reason with him, Fenris will leave your mansion.
At this point, it may be confusing as to whether or not your relationship has ended. However, your romance can still continue as long as you do not sleep with any other character. Patience is your guide. Dragon Age 2 romances seem to have their challenges. It will become clear later in the game as to why Fenris left your mansion after your romantic encounter. Fenris will also have friendly banter with you during your adventuring on quests if you decide to remain a couple. However, note that unlike Anders, you will not have the option to have Fenris move in with you. Fenris will choose to live alone even if you continue the relationship.
