Enabling the developer console in Bioware's "Dragon Age: Origins" allows you perform a myriad of cheats or tweaks to the gameplay. With a few simple commands, you can add party members before you meet them in the story, get infinite money, more skill points and talents, and even become invincible.

Getting Started - Dragon Age Origins Cheats

Cheats can make foes like these no challenge at all. The first thing you'll need to do is enable the developer's console. Right-click on the shortcut you use to launch "Dragon Age: Origins." (If you don't have one, you'll need to create one.) Select "Properties" and add " -enabledeveloperconsole" to the text at the end of the "Target" field. (No quotes, and don't forget the space at the beginning!)

If you have the Steam version of the game, right-click on it, click "Properties," click "Set Launch Options," and add "-enabledeveloperconsole" to the empty field. (Again, no quotes!)

Now, go to your "My Documents" folder and look for the BioWare folder. Open the Dragon Age folder, then Settings, and then open "KeyBindings.ini" in Notepad. Find the line that says "OpenConsole_0" and change the text after the equals sign to "Keyboard::Button_Tilde". (Leave off the quotes, as usual.)

You should now be ready to cheat in "Dragon Age." You can open the console by pressing the tilde key while in the game. The console is unfortunately invisible, so it is generally advisable to install this mod, which makes console commands visible. If you don't install the mod, then you can tell the console is working because normal hotkeys stop functioning.

Basics: The bread and butter of "Dragon Age" cheating

These commands are universally useful when you just can't stand dying to that big group of darkspawn/giant spiders/cave dinosaurs any longer.

    • runscript addxp X (the bread)
Wherein X is the amount of experience you'd like to give your character.
      • runscript pc_immortal (the butter)
Wherein the player finds that he or she still takes damage, but can no longer be killed.
      • runscript killallhostiles (the knife)
Wherein the hearts of all of the creatures onscreen suddenly stop beating. (They die.)
